Hi, I’m Alissa.

I am not going to give you a story about how I used to be a stressed-out shell of myself and now I am always happy and at peace.

I value keeping it real. So, here is what I am going to tell you instead.

I used to be incredibly unaware of what was happening in my body and why I would suddenly feel the need to retreat from the world or would snap at everyone close to me. I used to view these things as personality flaws and really beat myself up for them.

And then I learned about the nervous system. And suddenly it all made sense.

Today, when those feelings arise for me (because they still do), I meet them with compassion and understanding. I take them as a signal from my nervous system that I’ve been neglecting myself and not really tuned into my needs and emotions. And I know the exact pathway back to leisurely floating on the water rather than effortfully treading it.

As a licensed psychotherapist and certified yoga and mindfulness teacher, I've distilled my years of personal and professional experience into my offerings for Root Collective.
